
Mr. Collins served as the Deputy Superintendent for Merced City School District (MCSD) for two years before his appointment as MCSD Interim Superintendent on July 1, 2021. Before this role, he served in multiple leadership roles in the District, including Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, and Director of Pupil Services. In his role in Human Resources, Mr. Collins was named the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) Administrator of the Year for Region IX.
He previously served as both Assistant Principal and Principal for Tenaya Middle School and as Principal at Sheehy Elementary School. Mr. Collins also served as Principal of Hoover Middle School, the school he himself attended as a student. Having spent most of his educational career in the Central Valley, Mr. Collins is passionate about supporting staff and partnering with parents and other stakeholders to build on the great tradition of teamwork to drive student success.
Mr. Collins began his educational career in 1997 as a Biology and Physical Science teacher for West Covina Unified School District. He also taught U.S. History and U.S. Government at Chaffey High School in Ontario before moving home to Merced in 2000 to teach at Golden Valley High School for six years. At GVHS, he taught Advanced Placement Government and Economics and also coached men’s basketball, women’s volleyball, and softball.
Since becoming Superintendent of Chowchilla Elementary School District, Mr. Collins has worked closely with the Board of Trustees, staff, and community to build and implement the District’s five-year strategic plan. Under his leadership, CESD has committed to becoming a true professional learning community, with a strong focus on collaboration, student learning, and results. He has placed the highest importance on the safety and security of students and staff, launched a new English Language Arts curriculum to strengthen early literacy, and dedicated districtwide efforts to raising student achievement.
In addition to these academic and cultural initiatives, Mr. Collins is guiding significant facility improvements. With completion expected this year, CESD is building an almost $12 million gymnasium/cafeteria/multi-purpose building at Fairmead Elementary and four new Transitional Kindergarten/Kindergarten classrooms at Fuller Elementary. These projects will expand opportunities for students and create modern, welcoming spaces for the school community.
Raised in Merced, California, Superintendent Collins is committed to preparing all students to thrive now and into the future by improving literacy, providing rigorous instruction with high expectations, and ensuring every child receives the tailored support they need. He is deeply invested in, and committed to, the growing Chowchilla community.
